In October we wear pink not just because it is pretty, but to raise awareness for breast cancer! According to the Center for Disease Control more then 230,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women each year in the United States, and more then 40,000 die each year from this disease. So, when given the opportunity to participate in an organization that celebrates breast cancer survivors, we were all in. Runway for the Cure is a luncheon and style show held in Little Rock Arkansas each year. Local boutiques and stores are assigned seven-eight women to model their clothes down a Hollywood style runway to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.
We first got to meet the models a couple weeks before the show during our meet-n-greet/ fitting session. Raven, and our online manager, Caroline, treated the models to pink candies and snacks, while the models tried on various potential outfits. The seven women varied in age, background, body shape, and preferred style...but even though they had several differences, they all shared one commonality: each of our runway models had battled breast cancer.
Each of our models had their own individual story that they shared with us. Some of the women were diagnosed at a young age- some just in the last two years-some are still battling-some have already survived-some have gone through months and months of chemo-some have had tons of surgeries, etc...not one of these women had a similar story, but they all had a similar lasting response: "I am a stronger woman now than I was before my cancer."
On the day of the show, the venue was all sparkle and shine. It was such a dream with the silver and pink decorations, and with an extra-long runway lined with Hollywood lights. This venue made our models feel so special to be able to have such a beautiful stage and they rocked it! As a special surprise, Raven brought along her friend, and everyone's favorite dolphin/shark...Alexis Waters! Not only did Alexis bring hoops from her hoop line Hoop Nation By Alexis Waters to gift for all the models, but she helped dress and calm the nerves of our models before they graced the runway. Thanks Alexis! We ♡ You! And of course, Raven, Caroline, and our top shop girl, Taylor, were there to style and dress each model as well. The four of them cheered like 'Toddlers and Tiaras' stage Moms as our models crossed the catwalk.
