Grey Suede Gives Back: Runway for the Cure Edition

Posted on

In October we wear pink not just because it is pretty, but to raise awareness for breast cancer! According to the Center for Disease Control more then 230,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women each year in the United States, and more then 40,000 die each year from this disease. So, when given the opportunity to participate in an organization that celebrates breast cancer survivors, we were all in. Runway for the Cure is a luncheon and style show held in Little Rock Arkansas each year. Local boutiques and stores are assigned seven-eight women to model their clothes down a Hollywood style runway to raise money and awareness for breast cancer

We first got to meet the models a couple weeks before the show during our meet-n-greet/ fitting session. Raven, and our online manager, Caroline, treated the models to pink candies and snacks, while the models tried on various potential outfits. The seven women varied in age, background, body shape, and preferred style...but even though they had several differences, they all shared one commonality: each of our runway models had battled breast cancer.

Each of our models had their own individual story that they shared with us. Some of the women were diagnosed at a young age- some just in the last two years-some are still battling-some have already survived-some have gone through months and months of chemo-some have had tons of surgeries, etc...not one of these women had a similar story, but they all had a similar lasting response: "I am a stronger woman now than I was before my cancer."

On the day of the show, the venue was all sparkle and shine. It was such a dream with the silver and pink decorations, and with an extra-long runway lined with Hollywood lights. This venue made our models feel so special to be able to have such a beautiful stage and they rocked it! As a special surprise, Raven brought along her friend, and everyone's favorite dolphin/shark...Alexis Waters! Not only did Alexis bring hoops from her hoop line Hoop Nation By Alexis Waters to gift for all the models, but she helped dress and calm the nerves of our models before they graced the runway. Thanks Alexis! We  You! And of course, Raven, Caroline, and our top shop girl, Taylor, were there to style and dress each model as well. The four of them cheered like 'Toddlers and Tiaras' stage Moms as our models crossed the catwalk.

Our very first model to grace the runway was the fabulous Lauren! We dressed her in our Rock It Tonight Set; the ensemble featured a pattern of gold, silver and black sequins.  This look would be perfect for any concert lovers making any sparkly lovers sparkly dreams come true. This outfit reflected Lauren’s bright personality on that stage. SHOP THE ROCK IT TONIGHT SET

Detail detail detail was included into Traci’s outfit! We had the perfect button up dress for the sweet nature of Traci’s demeanor. The Pearl Violet Dress has such intricate designs and stitching you could appreciate from far away but get lost in how beautiful this piece is up close. Trimmed with velvet gives this dress a piece of elegance that brought out Traci’s eyes. SHOP THE PEARL VIOLET DRESS

Julie dawned a multilayered look inspired by different textures, the outfit represented her edgy and cool sides while still putting an emphasis on comfort. This spunky breast cancer survivor was outfitted in out Wren Cape BlazerChance Leather Leggings, Biome Millimeter Boot, and the staple piece of the outfit: Guns N' Roses Graphic Tee. You can easily dress down this outfit by taking the blazer off or if you were going to keep dressing this outfit up to add a statement jewelry. SHOP JULIE'S TEE

Our hot tamale was Michelle S! Dressed to impress we styled her in an olive-green sweater dress with bell sleeve accents and little slits on the side; to deliver you a little sexy but conservative look. Grey Suede also paired this versatile dress with a multicolored faux fur vest that had hints of burgundy that tied in with her over the knee burgundy boots. Michelle felt like herself in this look while she worked the runway with a huge grin. SHOP MICHELLE'S DRESS

Karen was our next cancer survivor. Burgundy is the color of the fall season this year so of course we put Karen in a faux fur lined burgundy poncho. An eye catcher for sure we paired this poncho with some leather leggings that had slits in the knee to show a bit of an edgier side. SHOP KAREN'S PONCHO

Our girl Michelle T. was paired in a band tee with some black leather leggings for the right amount of comfortable meets cute. She, too rocked the red hot booties, but the main piece of this look was our Victoria Buttoned Trench Coat. This coat brings a level of sophistication and fashion to any outfit. Dress it up or dress it down, it still steals the show with its suede texture and rich blue color. SHOP MICHELLE'S COAT

Hot mom goals, Tiffany was styled in a draw dropping blazer dress. Be the talk of your work place NYE party, or any party for that matter.
